Enjoy with us a visit to the Rosetta Stone in Alexandria
and the Rosetta Stone is a granodiorite monument with a decree issued in Memphis, Egypt, in 196 BC
on behalf of King Ptolemy V. The decree appears in three texts: the upper part is the ancient Egyptian language hieroglyphs,
the middle part is the hieratic text, and the lower part is the ancient Greek.
Because it presents essentially the same text in all three texts (with some slight differences between them),
the stone provides the key to a modern understanding of Egyptian hieroglyphs.
